The geographical Atlas of Ptolemy was published in 1480 in Florence by the publisher Nicolaus Laurenti (Nicolaus Laurentii). The Atlas is based on the data of travelers processed by the predecessor of Ptolemy named Marine Tirsky about 120 ad. Ptolemy's merit is that he tried to link the data to the meridional coordinate system, i.e. gives clear instructions for building a world map on the sphere. Atlas of Ptolemy reflects the classic, preserved for the ages the view of Ptolemy that the earth is the sphere that is reduced by a quarter compared to the actual size and is covered with land, which occupies 2/3 of the Northern hemisphere.
